Sakwiti: Sri-Lankan Traditional and Cultural dance group
Deepa Hettige is a Cultural Dancer, Professional Radio Artist, a Singer and also a Drama Director, as well as a theatre actress in Sri-Lanka. Deepa started to develop Sakwiti in 1997 in Canada. Sakwiti is a group promoting Traditional Sri-Lankan Drumming and Dancing to the International Community. They also play such musical instruments as the flute and sitar. Through the rhythms of the drums, the group reaches out to peoples' hearts; the flute gives a taste of Sri-Lankan folk music,and the sitar gives a Hindustani classic tone. To say briefly, Sakwiti is very high quality entertaining group for every body. They've performed for the Canadian International Audiences many times. The main theme of this group is "Music and Dance are the one of the unique languages which can speak to and be understood by everyone.
