Lumière volunteers are appreciated for the expertise and enthusiasm they bring to the festival.
Volunteers can work before, during or after the event day. On the day of the festival volunteers work in shifts so that everybody can have time to experience Lumière magic.
At pre-event volunteer workshops, you can meet other volunteers and work together to create stunning lanterns. Or if you prefer to we can provide you with supplies so that you can work from your own home.
To volunteer, please fill in the volunteer registration form and email or mail it to our office.

Volunteers are needed now for the following positions:
BEFORE THE FESTIVAL
Postering: We have beautiful posters waiting to be put up all over Ottawa & Hull. Put them up at your work place, school, community centre, grocery store or church.
Festival Promoters: Help promote the Festival by giving out brochures at other large events or gatherings
Translator: Translate Lumière promotions and media releases from English to other languages.
Media Assistant: Contact media to get Lumière listed on Public Service Announcements and community calendars. Additionally, contact other media sources to garner print, radio and TV publicity for the Festival.
Lantern Maker: Attend a volunteer lantern-making workshop and make “Star” or “Jar” lanterns, which we will use at the Festival. These can be made either at the Community Centre, or at home and brought back to the centre the week before the Festival.
Lantern Patcher: Love to create with tissue paper? We have lanterns in need of some TLC. No need to build lantern frames; simply recycle existing frames with new tissue paper and artistic flair.
Build New Lanterns: Are you an artistic person looking for a new project? We are looking to build some new creations for display at the festival, which are in keeping with our themes and our promotional poster.
Boutique Assistant: The Lumière Boutique, where children of all ages can buy their wings and lanterns, requires items to be priced and signage to be created.
Movers: Assist with the transportation of the lanterns and needed supplies from the Community Centre to the Field House in Stanley Park.
THE DAY OF THE FESTIVAL
Site Decorators: Depending on your area of expertise, assist the set-up team by helping to decorate the Lumière site. This could involve hanging lanterns, arranging installations, preparing performance areas, ensuring that technical services are installed, or putting up signage.
Costumed Greeters: Greet the arriving festival-goers as they come into the park, answer questions, and direct them to different areas within the Festival grounds. Additionally, Greeters will collect donations, in lieu of admission, used to fund further Lumière Festivals and other programs at Crichton Cultural Community Centre.
Lantern Making Table Assistant: Help children and adults make their own lanterns, with provided materials and tools, in the designated area of the Festival site.
Fire Safety: Be part of the safety patrol team! Help set up the fire safety equipment and ensure that the lanterns remain lit and in their proper place throughout a designated segment of the Festival route.
Runners: One of the most dynamic roles in the Festival! These high-energy people are the circulation of the volunteer and staff network. They bring needed supplies to all of the areas of the Festival.
Performer Liaison: Are you technically inclined? We need a volunteer, working in conjunction with the Performer Coordinator, to sign in performers and accommodate their needs.
Logistics Liaison: Are you the type of person who likes to organize and plan? We need a volunteer, working in conjunction with Festival Producer, to assist with the set up of the site.
Volunteer Liaison: Are you a people person? We need a volunteer, working in conjunction with the Volunteer Coordinator, to welcome incoming volunteers, to refer them to the Volunteer Table Operators, to answer questions, and to accommodate their needs.
Volunteer Table Operators: Do you like to meet new people? We are looking for people who can welcome volunteers, provide them with any needed supplies or directions, and ensure that they sign-in to the Festival.
Information Table Operators: Are you the kind of person who can get the word out? At this post volunteers would greet early festival‑goers, answer questions, and give directions.
Boutique Sales Associates: Do you like a fast-paced environment? Do you like to help children play dress-up? We need volunteers to provide assistance to festival‑goers in the Lumière Boutique.
Gazebo Assembly Crew: Are you a hands-on kind of person? We need volunteers with physical strength to assist with the assembly, and the disassembly after the event, of a gazebo kit on the Festival grounds.
Clean-up Crew: Are you an environmentally friendly person who enjoys our nations green spaces? Help return Stanley Park to its original state after the Festival by being part of our clean-up team! Immediately after the Festival, we start to collect the lanterns and supplies at the field house so that we can minimize our impact on the park. We are looking for volunteers to help with this task. Additionally, we return to the Festival site the day after the event to make sure we tidy up. This also involves walking the Festival route to collect any forgotten items and bringing them back to the Field House.
